PROJECTS

Dan A. Pratte is a Microsoft Certified Professional: SQL Server 2008, BI Development and Maintenance

During almost 15 years in the Business Intelligence field, I have enjoyed project success with many Business Intelligence projects and engagements. Some of these have involved just a day or two of training or a quick review of concept, while some engagements have literally lasted for years. For the past dozen years or so, my experience has been exclusively with the Microsoft BI stack (since SQL Server 7.0), including literally all of it's constituent products and concepts.

SQL Server 2008, Business Intelligence Development and Maintenance

Some engagement highlights are listed below:

TriHealth, Inc serves Greater Cincinnati, OH with a network of Hospitals, Physician Groups, and a wide-range of facilities and  health-care services. TriHealth contracted me to design, develop and deploy an Operating Room Utilization solution. This solution will prove to be a strong and extensible facilities management tool allowing them to optimize the scheduling of 75 operating rooms across several facilities. As well, the tool supports rich analysis across many facility, physician, and procedure attributes.

Alltech, Inc of Nicholasville, KY, leaders in the field of high-tech animal nutrition, contracted me to architect a comprehensive sales data mart prototype in support of their worldwide sales organization. This engagement focused on their transition from a primitive Business Intelligence solution to an advanced solution which leverages much of the Microsoft BI Stack including SQL Server (SSAS, SSIS, SSRS), Sharepoint 2007 MOSS (including Excel Services). At Alltech, I worked closely with IT contacts, mentoring them through the required planning, development and deployment of their new and powerful solution.

For the Illinois Department of Transportation (‘IDOT’), in Springfield, IL, I led the planning, development and deployment of a series of tactical data marts during the course of a four-year engagement. These data marts support a variety of business end-users and enable their direct, instant and easy access to information in the following areas: Auto Crash Analysis, Contract Management, Finance, and Human Resources. These projects are based on SQL Server 2005 tools and technology and leverage heavily IDOT’s significant Geographic Information System infrastructure. Several clever and creative innovations linking the worlds of Business Intelligence and Geographic Information Systems have emerged from the team.

As a management and technology consultant for Veolia Environmental Services (Baytown, TX), I worked closely with senior management to envision, design, deploy and subsequently support a project called Performance Management Technology or PMT. PMT, based on Microsoft BI tools and technologies, made valuable service information instantly available to Veolia's customers in support of the customer's cost reduction and process re-engineering initiatives. PMT gives my client the ability to stand out competitively in an otherwise crowded field, in a tough commodity business environment.
